Sonic the Hedgehog & Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

I was beginning to think that we'd never see the theatrical release of an actually watchable and commercially successful Super Mario movie. Congratulations, Nintendo fans, you earned it. I would like to commemorate your achievement... with a wine pairing for Sonic the Hedgehog.

You're never getting a wine pairing out of me, plumber! Sega forever! Everyone else may have moved on from Sonic and Mario's long rivalry, including Sonic and Mario themselves, but this Genesis kid NEVER will.

Sonic needs a wine with some zest, like a highly acidic Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. Greywacke is perfect.

Directed by Jeff Fowler and based on the popular videogame of the same name, the movie stars Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), a super-fast, anthropomorphic blue hedgehog. Sonic finds himself on Earth after fleeing his home world. While adjusting to his new surroundings, he attracts the attention of the villainous Dr. "Eggman" Robotnik, a cartoonish mad scientist played by Jim Carrey, living his best life and making the entire movie. To evade capture and protect his newfound home, Sonic teams up with local sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) as they embark on a high-speed adventure to thwart Dr. Robotnik's evil schemes. Combining action, comedy, and heart, "Sonic the Hedgehog" offers a fun and entertaining experience for both fans of the video game and newcomers alike.

Greywacke's Sauvignon Blanc is invigorating, produced in the renowned region of Marlborough, New Zealand. Its bright and lively flavors keep pace with the film's zippy narrative, while its crisp and refreshing character reflects the movie's lighthearted tone and celebration of friendship and adventure.

Now, if you'll excuse me, this Sega fanboy is going to go play Sonic Frontiers... on his Nintendo Switch...
